Dantoy Design Pitch
The toy manufacturer Dantoy held a competition among a number of designers to create an initial design pitch for a new garbage truck for their collection of sandbox toys.
The time frame for the pitch was two working days. The following brief was given: “European truck design that is not too masculine. (soft, round shapes design languages without getting cartoonish or too childish) age group 5-6.”

Process
To find the right expression, or face, of the truck a number of truck fronts were sketched.
It was important to find a look that felt modern and timeless simultaneously. To achieve this the headlights were made angular, but not enough to look aggressive. The sketch that inspired the final concept can be seen below.

Final Concept
Renderings of the final product can be seen in the following pictures. Much like the front, the rest of the truck was kept slightly angular to not become cartoonish but not enough to achieve a look that would be too masculine. The front of the truck was made flat to be in line with the desire for a European truck look.
